MICROGREENS

Microgreens are tasty nutrient dense superfoods. These tiny powerhouses encapsulate all the benefits of the mature plant in a highly concentrated form. Microgreens are just-sprouted vegetable/ herb seeds, that are in their first days of growth in fertile compost when picked.

We are passionate about eating nutrient dense tasty foods, and we are very happy to grow these superfoods. We are delighted to supply the top restaurants in the Limousin with our greens. We grow many different varieties, all grown from high quality seeds in compost, with no use of any pesticides or chemicals. A vertical growing environment that enables us to grow for success for 365 days of the year!

Microgreens contain a high concentration of prebiotic fibre, stimulating the growth of beneficial microbes in your digestive tract. Gut health is linked to better immunity, healthy elimination, reduced risk of colorectal cancers, improved energy levels, and healthy weight maintenance. Studies have proven that microgreens contain 4 to 40 times more vitamins, enzymes, minerals, antioxidants and beneficial properties than equivalent products grown to maturity. As an example, consuming about 30g of broccoli microgreens is equivalent to eating almost 1.5kg of broccoli grown to maturity.

There are so many benefits to having microgreens in your diet. We’ve long known that eating more fresh vegetables keeps us healthy and is linked to reducing chronic diseases. Such conditions that microgreens can protect you from include Heart disease, certain Cancer, Diabetes, Alzheimer’s Disease, and poor Kidney function. Microgreens contain much lower potassium levels, so anybody with poor kidney function can enjoy the health benefits of microgreens without worrying about increasing potassium intake.

Microgreens can have a real, tangible impact on your health if consumed as a regular and consistent part of your diet. They have antioxidants, anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties that contribute to: Boost in brain function and immunity, Clear congestion, Improved digestive function and healthy glowing skin.

PERMACULTURE. NO-DIG. MICROGREENS

WHAT IS PERMACULTURE ?

Permaculture Design promotes sustainable and regenerative living and making a difference at a local level. Permaculture is an ecological and innovative design system for now and future generations. The phrase was coined by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren from Australia. Permaculture creates systems for regeneration and sustainable living in harmony with nature’s intelligence. There are 12 principles which give a beautiful framework sharing practical and productive methodology that cares for the planet and creates solutions to problems that we face both locally and globally. It is a philosophy & flexible movement that encourages us to be resourceful, responsible, self reliant and minimise our impact on the environment.  We can design ourselves out of the current world problems. It’s about aligning our actions to the natural systems so we become the most beneficial element on earth rather than the most damaging. We need a design plan, Permaculture has that design plan.

WHAT IS NO DIG ?

No-Dig methods give superb and time-saving results in the production of vegetables. No-Dig gardening, or no-tillage is a method that avoids disturbing of the soil. It is gaining in popularity in gardening and retentive farming. When growing crops, rather than using machinery such as tractors, plows, spades, to turn or cultivate the soil , no-dig is more or less leaving the soil alone.  One of the most favourable reasons of this method is that no-dig prevents soils erosion and compaction. This in turn creates healthier soil that absorbs, retains moisture and nutrients better. Using a mulch of compost on a no-dig vegetable bed it unlocks fertility and there are less weeds. By feeding the soil it results in healthier soil organisms and fine threads of mycorrhizal fungi (many which are harmed by tillage) which in turn means healthier crops and stronger yields. Plus you save time by not digging.

WHAT ARE MICROGREENS?

Microgreens are just-sprouted vegetable/ herb seeds, that are in their first days of growth in fertile compost when picked. When harvested at this young stage of development there is a concentration of vitamins A, B, C and E, enzymes, and minerals (iron, calcium), beta-carotene, several antioxidants and even dietary fibre. In addition to having a low calorie and fat ratio, microgreens are known to be natural antioxidants contributing to the maintenance of good physical health. Micro-Greens are tasty nutrient dense superfoods.

MOULIN DIARIES

We are video documenting our progress with renovating the Moulin, so you are welcome to head over to our Moulin des Monts youtube channel and subscribe to see all our latest videos. The Moulin is going to be an epic project, and we promised to share with you all our highs and lows! We are certainly no experts in owning a Mill and all that it entails (if there are any Mill enthusiasts out there please get in touch) but we are enthusiastic and looking forward to learning new skills along the way.

We know there are problems with the Moulin as it has been neglected for many many years, but in trying to bring this beautiful building back to life it will not to be for the faint hearted. Yikes what have we let ourselves in for! We have an array of mixed emotions on a daily basis, but remain optimistic and positive about what is possible for us to do whilst trying to keep our sense of humour as we go.

Our vision is still not 100% clear as with most big projects it evolves, but in time our hope is that it becomes an integral part of our business moving forward. In 2023 we began turning our attention towards this lovely old building. Our initial aim is to make the the floors safe again, and address the water damage. . .

Follow us as we promote sustainable and regenerative living, renovate the Moulin. Click here to visit our channel.
